Facts about Mrs. Capps
I was born right here in Wayne County on January 14, 1967. My parents are J.C. and Esther Bartlett Gardner. My dad passed away December 9, 1997. I still miss him so much. My mom passed away June 13th, 2015. I miss her very much too! I went to Eastern Wayne from 1st grade until 12th grade. When I started school, there was no kindergarten. I went straight to first grade. I played softball with my church, in middle school, and in high school. I drove a school bus in high school and I loved it. I graduated in 1985 from Eastern Wayne High School. I worked at the grocery store Farm Fresh. It was located where Wal-Mart is on Spence Avenue. I worked in the bakery and I learned how to decorate cakes. I went to Wayne Community College and received my two year degree. I transferred to East Carolina University to complete my bachelor's degree in elementary education. I started teaching in 1993. I have been in the same class and the same grade ever since. I have often said they won't let me go to second grade, so they keep me in first. During all this, I got married to my husband, Billy. We dated 7 years before getting married. We have two children. Kayla is 21 and in her senior year at Wayne Community College. Danny is 15 and in 10th grade.
I love teaching and working with my students. Some days are very trying. Other days, I feel like I really reach the kids. All in all, I wouldn't have any other job because my kids mean the world to me.
